There was once a time when a visible slip was considered a mortifying fashion faux pas. Now, Victoria Beckham is turning the wardrobe malfunction into an intentional styling trick.
Today, the designer hit the Paris pavement in a black below-the-knee midi dress, its sleeveless top draping over a body-skimming pencil skirt. The rest of Beckham’s outfit was par for the course: she styled it with her signature oversized aviator sunglasses, teetering black open-toed mules, and a white Hermès Birkin.
But Beckham switched up her usual look with the addition of an off-white lace slip, which ever so slightly flared out from beneath her hem, like a flower beginning to bloom. While the designer is a typically polished dresser, this wink of a lacy underskirt offered a more bohemian bent than we have come to expect from her. (The loose balayaged waves certainly help!)
Beckham isn’t the only one loosening up their summer style with a lacy slip skirt. Last year, during New York’s heatwave, Jennifer Lawrence doubled down on the visible slip, layering two white lace-trimmed skirts under a baggy graphic tee.
It just goes to show that there’s room for everyone under the slip skirt umbrella, from the put-together dressers like Victoria Beckham to the free spirits like Jennifer Lawrence. And, with these two stylish women on board, the visible slip is a fashion miss no more.
