With denim trends moving in countless directions and more lifestyle brands incorporating the fabric into their collections, Resort 2027 is emerging as a playground for designers to experiment with the hardwearing textile.
The season brings a variety of feminine silhouettes to the forefront, including Zimmermann’s off-the-shoulder peplum top, capri pants and skirts with asymmetrical hems. Veronica Beard offers a two-tone collarless jacket to dress up and down, and Eli Saab transforms a Trucker silhouette into a corset-like top.
Clear coatings are prominent in Gucci’s maximalist collection of baggy and low-rise jeans. Even Fendi turns it up a notch with metallic silver coated denim coordinates.
Others favor more brash and distressed looks. Dsquared2 and Dior are among the brands showing shredded denim for resort, though the latter incorporated silver chains into the destroyed fabrics. Fades by Diesel and Balenciaga have a blurred and ombre effect, signaling a shift away from the dirty tints and washes that have trended in recent seasons.
Whimsical elements come through in Anna Sui’s mixed media appliqués and ruffle trims on jeans and denim skirts, Chanel’s denim coordinates covered in clear sequins, Kenzo’s sets decorated with flower embroideries and Stella McCartney’s jeans with carnival stripes. Monse and Louis Vuitton give denim dimension with exaggerated ruffles and florals constructions.
Denim with pieced and paneled constructions add color and wash variety, updating pencil skirts by Coach and Diesel’s work jackets. MM6 Maison Margiela, Balenciaga and Ossou pieced jeans together with different washes. Tanya Taylor added a dark wash back pocket to a pair of medium wash jeans. Constructions are also enhanced with seam details like Ulla Johnson’s split-front pencil skirt.
