THE WHAT? Unilever has completed a £150 million investment programme at its Port Sunlight site in the UK, including a new automated distribution centre and manufacturing upgrades across its home care operations.
THE DETAILS The investment includes the development of a high-tech distribution centre connected directly to the site’s three factories, where brands such as Persil, Comfort, Cif and Lynx are produced. Unilever has also upgraded manufacturing capabilities at its laundry capsule factory, increasing production capacity from 660 capsules per minute to around 2,000 per minute while enabling more complex product formats. The company said the new logistics setup will reduce truck movements between factories and external distribution centres, cutting carbon emissions by approximately 830 tonnes annually. Port Sunlight remains a key manufacturing and R&D hub for Unilever and currently employs around 2,000 people.
THE WHY? The investment supports Unilever’s efforts to improve operational efficiency, increase manufacturing capacity, strengthen sustainability performance and reinforce Port Sunlight’s role as a strategic production and logistics hub for UK and European operations.
