THE WHAT? Primark is preparing to expand into Abu Dhabi following a highly successful launch in Dubai that exceeded sales and customer expectations.
THE DETAILS Primark parent Alshaya Group confirmed it is in discussions with landlords in Abu Dhabi and reviewing additional locations in Dubai as part of a faster-than-planned UAE expansion strategy. The retailer has already opened three large-format stores in Dubai within less than eight weeks and reported serving one million shoppers while selling four million items since launch. The Mall of the Emirates store was opened ahead of schedule due to strong demand, while City Centre Mirdif also delivered stronger-than-expected performance. Alshaya said Abu Dhabi expansion is expected within the next 12 months, with further regional growth planned through upcoming Bahrain and Qatar openings later this year. Rapid sales growth has also forced the retailer to diversify logistics routes and use air freight to replenish stock amid supply chain pressures.
THE WHY? The expansion highlights the growing appetite for affordable international fashion brands in the Gulf region and reflects how retailers are accelerating Middle East growth plans to capture rising consumer demand and tourism-driven spending.
