THE WHAT? The National Eczema Association has expanded its Seal of Acceptance programme into colour cosmetics for the first time, beginning with foundations, concealers and primers designed for consumers with eczema and sensitive skin.
THE DETAILS Products applying for the Seal are individually assessed by a panel of dermatologists, allergists and eczema specialists against clinical safety, ingredient and formulation standards, with external testing required for sensitivity, irritation and toxicity. Products cannot contain added fragrance, chemical UV absorbers, formaldehyde releasers or ingredients on the NEA’s Ecz-clusion List. IT Cosmetics, Laura Geller Beauty, Rare Beauty and Tower 28 Beauty are the first make-up brands to have products awarded the Seal, with additional colour cosmetics categories expected to follow.
THE WHY? The expansion introduces an established third-party certification standard into the colour cosmetics category, creating new formulation and testing considerations for beauty brands targeting the growing sensitive-skin market while providing a potential point of differentiation for qualifying products.
